About Us Indoor Furniture Home Accents Home Contact

All of Sarawak's furniture and accents are hand made from the most exotic woods in the world. Unless noted, each piece is crafted from plantation-grown teak. Some other woods that we use are mahogany and bamboo.

Sarawak's items are hand made. That means that each piece of wood is cut by hand; each curved piece is chiseled by hand. Our furnishings are unique in that we bring back the concept of artistry in woodworking. Also, our prices are competitive with chain store furniture that is made from chipboard!

If you run your hand over some of the pieces, you will be able to feel the artisan's work with the minute edges that he left on the piece. This also gives our pieces a more natural look and feel. As each piece evolves, the artisans manipulate the wood independent of the last (or next) piece. This literally makes each piece one of a kind, a sort of artwork in and of itself.

Sarawak has several lines of furnishings. The names are descriptive of the feel of the piece and a brief description for each is listed below.

The Base Camp Line:
This line of furnishings relies on basic lines. The Base Camp line gives a simple yet elegant feel in each piece.

The Kalimantan Line:
Named for an area of Borneo, this line gives a rugged sense to the furniture. The Bornean mystique is almost palpable in this line of furnishings. This style incorporates An-Teak wood. An-Teak is teak wood that is over 60 years old. (An-Teak is teak wood that is refurbished from doors, furniture, and other pieces and remade into something new. This imparts a rich history into any piece that uses An-Teak.)

The Makassar Line: Makassar furniture incorporates teak and other woods to make this a distinctive line. Another trademark of this line is the close ties to Balinese design. The marriage of styles transcends stylistic differences and lends itself to complementing other pieces.

The Kelabit Line: Elegant and beautiful, the Kelabit line is one of the most sought after styles. This line of furniture exudes a feel that can best be described as colonialism in the jungle.

The Batu Lawi Line: Named for a mysterious mountain in Borneo, this style is ornate. The mountain inspired tribes for thousands of years in their working and religious life. Sarawak has brought that same rich history into this line of furnishings.
